Object history and revisions
Each object’s history follows what was originally made, what changed, and what exists in the latest documented condition. Earlier photographs, drawings, correspondence, and accounts remain part of the same record.
This register connects the evidence already cited on the archive pages. It is not a completed review of every object’s history. Missing dates and unconfirmed changes are identified below.
Current objects and their earlier records
| Object | Original and previous versions | Current condition and remaining work |
|---|---|---|
| Ambo AMBO | Design sketches, revised production sheets, installation review, and the invoice are linked in the object history. | Latest supplied photographs are on the ambo page. Confirm any later physical correction before adding a completed-work entry. |
| High altar HIGH-ALTAR | Original configuration and successive alterations need a component-specific chronology. | Keep the high altar distinct from the tabernacle altar and Gospel altar; a general sanctuary photograph does not establish each component’s history. |
| Tabernacle altar TABERNACLE-ALTAR | Original and later settings require comparison with dated photographs, plans, and correspondence. | Track the tabernacle separately from its supporting altar and surrounding setting. |
| Gospel altar GOSPEL-ALTAR | Earlier condition and restoration records are retained in the sanctuary collection. Their dates and sequence still need reconciliation. | Do not infer an original configuration solely from a recent restoration photograph. |
| Stations of the Cross STATIONS | The object page links History Notes and earlier photographs; relocation and cross replacement are recorded with qualifications. | Maintain individual Station I–XIV identities when assigning location or component changes. |
| Individual windows WINDOWS | North, south, and west object records link the existing research collections. | Record each panel separately. Original glazing, later repairs, movement, and replacement require dated evidence; recreated icons are reference illustrations. |
| Al Smith window AL-SMITH-WINDOW | The dedicated page holds the current photograph and historical research references. | Any earlier arrangement, repair, or replacement remains to be established from sources. |
| Two tapestries TAPESTRIES | Current photographs IMG_8722.jpeg and IMG_8725.jpeg are cataloged separately. | Original designs, maker, installation dates, previous locations, and repairs are not yet established. |
| Seating, rail, floor, crucifix, and font SANCTUARY-ELEMENTS | The photographic gallery preserves current and earlier supplied views. | Create separate component records when linking dated earlier conditions, relocation, repair, or replacement. Do not treat an upload date as the date of the object or work. |
Recorded changes
These entries summarize the existing ambo and Stations pages and retain their source qualifications. A proposed change, approved change, completed change, and financial adjustment are different records.
| Object | Date or period | Record type | What the record states | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ambo | 2021–2022 design development | Design alternatives | Sketches and proposed details preceded production drawings. A proposal does not establish an installed condition. | Current photographs are linked on the ambo page; their capture dates are not established. |
| Ambo | May 23, 2022 | Production drawings | The ambo page identifies seven production sheets with handwritten dimensional corrections. | Retain each drawing revision separately from the installed object. |
| Ambo | October–November 2022 | Installation and review | The ambo page records installation preparations, followed by a report that the installed ambo was two inches shorter than planned. | Exact installation day remains unestablished in the reviewed correspondence. |
| Ambo | November 2022 | Proposed correction | Replacement or a $3,000 deduction was offered. Later correspondence reported retention of the installed ambo. | A completed remake is not established; do not label the proposal as completed work. |
| Ambo | January 9, 2023 | Billing revision | Invoice 39121 records a $3,000 deduction from $32,071, resulting in $29,071. | A billing revision does not establish a physical alteration or final payment. |
| Stations of the Cross | Date not established | Earlier location | History Notes records that four stations formerly on the rear sanctuary wall were moved to side walls. | The date and identities of the four stations still require source confirmation. |
| Stations of the Cross | January 12, 2023 note | Component replacement | History Notes records replacement of deteriorating plywood crosses with bronze crosses of the same dimensions, without a design change. | This is an attributed project note; original invoice and completion evidence remain to be checked. |
| Stations of the Cross | Photograph dates not established | Latest supplied photographs | Fourteen individual photographs document the visible condition of the stations. | Photographs alone do not establish the dates of relocation or component replacement. |
How each history is maintained
- Original form. Link the earliest reliable photograph, drawing, specification, or commissioning record. If it is only the earliest known condition, label it that way.
- Previous conditions. Keep each documented arrangement or version in chronological order, including location, materials, finish, dimensions, and components when supported.
- Changes. Record the date, before and after condition, reason, participants, and whether the work was proposed, approved, completed, or remains unconfirmed. Distinguish repair, restoration, replacement, relocation, and redesign.
- Current condition. Link the latest dated evidence and record the photograph date separately from the installation or alteration date. Undated photographs remain undated.
- Source trail. Preserve original filenames and source links, with page, drawing number, revision, or correspondence date. Keep drawings, approvals, invoices, and completion photographs together by object.
- Document revisions. Retain the previous text or file, identify what changed and why, and link the evidence for the correction. Revised drafts and alternate photographs are not automatically duplicates.
Source statements and interpretations remain distinguishable. A new photograph or corrected caption must not erase an earlier condition or turn an unverified account into established history.
Archive revision log
| Date | Revision | Basis | Effect on prior records |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 28, 2026 | Expanded People into individual, source-linked records; added source and uncertainty labels and available archive portraits. Corrected the printed book title to The Souls of the Just; retained “Souls of Justice” only as the legacy file/folder label. | Father White’s manuscript; Byrne’s 1939 explanation and Atkinson notes; Upon This Rock; the book title page; clergy history compilation; archive inventory, selected drawing and correspondence records, the scanned unsigned Wozencraft architect agreement, and institutional finding aids. | Earlier people records were replaced by individual pages. No underlying source files were changed. Attributions without reviewed primary evidence remain labeled as attributed or unresolved. |
| September 22, 2026 | Added the object history register, connected current pages with earlier conditions and recorded changes, and established revision requirements. | Archive owner’s instruction; existing ambo and Stations source registers. | Existing object narratives, source files, and earlier photographs retained. This entry records an archive change, not new physical work. |
Earlier editorial changes have not been reconstructed in this log. Future corrections must add an entry giving the affected object, previous wording or file, replacement wording or file, reason, source, and editor when known.
