Father White’s history identifies a banker named McGraw as chair of the Sacred Heart trustees and says he resigned during a dispute over Byrne’s fees, then returned after the contract was settled. Later parish notes identify a J. J. McGraw on the church committee.

The relationship between the ‘banker McGraw’ and the J. J. McGraw in the retrospective committee list is plausible but not established by the original letter itself.
